Here are a Bug and a Non-Bug report about CampMan 1.1
along with the answers on how to get around them....
1. I'm editing a character in GM Access mode with
"View Hidden" on and I try to change its race but
the assigned hidden characteristics don't change
the way the documentation says they should!
A. This is NOT a bug... By telling CampMan you wish
to view hidden characteristics, you are in effect
telling it you want to EDIT them. I felt it would
be inappropriate for the program to suddenly change
what the GM wanted to edit or remain the same.
What is actually happening is this: The hidden
characteristics are changed when the race is changed,
but the character manager saves the settings in its
entry fields after the race change is made.
If you wish hidden characteristics to automatically
change when you reassign a character's race in GM Access
mode, the hidden characteristics must not be shown
in the character manager's display. As long as the
character manager was opened while "View Hidden" was
turned off the characteristics should change.
2. Sometimes, when I try to print I get past the print
dialog and then a GPF ocurrs and Windows shuts down CampMan.
This doesn't happen all the time so I'm not sure if this
is a bug with CampMan or some other program I'm using.
Have their been any other reports about this problem?
A. Yes, their have been other reports regarding this STRANGE
intermitent problem and I am looking into why happens and
if it may be fixed... Here is what I've learned so far:
The bug only seems to ocurr when _all_ of the following
are true:
* You are using Print Manager to buffer output to the
printer.
* You are printing from the _first_ copy of CampMan to
have been loaded durring the current Windows session.
* This is the _first_ object to be printed from CampMan
and it is not a Note or GM Note.
To get around this problem, it seems that you only need to
remove one of the three above conditions.
To confirm you have this problem you should do the
following:
* Open the Windows Control Panel and double click on the
Printers icon. Make sure the "use Print Manager" check
box is checked. Then exit Windows.
* Start up Windows and imediately run CampMan.
* Create a new character and try to print it.
* If after you press the OK button, the print cancel dialog
appears and then a General Protection Fault ocurrs
referring to "VSTUB", you have just seen this strange
bug in action.
* Now start up CampMan a second time, create a new character
and try to print it. The character should print without
any errors.
Suggested Solution: It seems that exiting out of the first
copy of CampMan to run is all that's necessary to avoid this
problem. I would suggest that you place a copy of the CampMan
icon in your AutoStart program group. Then simply press the
"Exit" button on the first startup dialog you see after runing
Windows. You should then be able to run CampMan without worrying
if the problem will ocurr the next time you print.
